Exam Pattern

JEE-Main Exam has two papers, Paper-1 and Paper-2. Candidates may opt for either or both of them.

  • Paper-1 is for admission in B.Tech, B.E, B.Com, B.Sc (online and offline)
  • Paper-2 is for admission in B.Arch and B.Planning (offline only)
And both papers contain objective type questions and the (approximately 150,000) qualified students are eligible to attend the JEE-Advanced Exam. The eligibility to write the JEE-Advanced exam will be based on the performance in the JEE-Main examination. The option to write paper-1 online was officially withdrawn from 2014 onwards, and it has been put off for a later date.

Paper 1 - for B.E/B.TECH courses

  • Duration: 3 hrs
  • Objective type questions with equal weightage to Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics
  • Four options with single correct answer
  • Negative marking - for each incorrect response, one fourth (1/4) of the total marks allotted to the question would be deducted.No response will mean no deduction of marks

Paper 2 - for B.ARCH/B. PLANNING

  • Mathematics - Part I - objective questions
  • Aptitude Test - Part II - objective questions
  • Drawing Test - Part III - to test drawing aptitude
  • Duration - 3 Hours
